What is it used for?
This medicine is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How does it work?
Sitagliptin helps the body release more insulin after meals and reduces the amount of sugar made by the liver. Metformin also lowers sugar production by the liver and helps the body use insulin better.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, preferably with food, to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the tablet as directed and do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions on the prescription and do not take a double dose.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, indigestion, headache and cold-like symptoms may occur. Low blood sugar is more likely when used with insulin or certain other diabetes medicines.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems, dehydration, heavy alcohol use, pancreatitis, or vitamin B12 deficiency. Kidney function may need monitoring. Seek urgent medical help for severe or persistent abdominal pain, unusual weakness, breathing difficulty or severe vomiting. Tell the doctor before surgery or an X-ray scan using an iodinated contrast dye. Discuss use during pregnancy or breastfeeding with a doctor.
