What is it used for?
Itraconazole is an antifungal medicine used to treat fungal infections of the skin, nails, mouth, and other parts of the body, as prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It stops fungi from making ergosterol, a substance they need to build and maintain their cell membranes. This helps stop the growth and spread of the fungal infection.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Itraconazole capsules are generally taken immediately after a full meal and should be swallowed whole with water. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not take an extra dose if one is missed without medical advice.

Common side effects
Nausea, stomach pain, indigestion, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, and skin rash.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver disease, heart failure, pregnancy, or breastfeeding before use. Itraconazole can interact with many medicines, so provide a complete list of all medicines and supplements being taken. Seek medical help for yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, severe tiredness, breathing difficulty, swelling of the legs, or a severe skin reaction.
