What is it used for?
Itraconazole is an antifungal medicine used to treat fungal infections of the skin, nails, mouth, vagina and other parts of the body, as prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It stops fungi from making ergosterol, a substance needed to maintain their cell membranes. This prevents the fungi from growing and spreading.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Itraconazole capsules are usually taken immediately after a full meal and should be swallowed whole with water. Do not stop treatment early without medical advice.

Common side effects
Nausea, stomach pain, indigestion, diarrhoea, headache and dizziness.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver disease, heart failure, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and all other medicines being taken, as itraconazole can interact with many medicines. Seek medical help for yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, severe tiredness, swelling of the legs, shortness of breath, severe rash or breathing difficulty.
