What is it used for?
Ketoconazole 200 mg tablets are used to treat certain serious fungal infections inside the body, usually when other antifungal medicines are unsuitable or ineffective. It is not usually the first choice for common skin fungal infections.

How does it work?
It stops fungi from making ergosterol, a substance they need to build and maintain their cell membranes. This prevents the fungi from growing.

How to take/use it
Take it only when prescribed and follow the doctor’s instructions exactly. Take the tablet with food and swallow it whole. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Tell the doctor about all medicines being taken, especially acid-reducing medicines.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, and changes in liver enzyme levels may occur.

Precautions
Ketoconazole tablets can rarely cause serious liver damage and important drug interactions. They should generally be avoided in people with liver disease unless specifically advised by a specialist. Avoid alcohol and seek urgent medical help for yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, severe weakness, persistent nausea, or severe abdominal pain. Inform the doctor about heart rhythm problems, adrenal problems, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and all prescription or non-prescription medicines.
