What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime proxetil is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the ear, throat, lungs, urinary tract and skin. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from forming their protective cell wall, which kills the bacteria and helps clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Use only as prescribed by the doctor. Shake the suspension well before each use and measure it with an oral syringe or measuring spoon. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not use leftover medicine or share it with others.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and headache may occur. Skin rash can also occur.

Precautions
Do not use if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, cephalosporin antibiotics or certain penicillin-type antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney problems or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, or severe, persistent or bloody diarrhoea. Use in children only under medical supervision.
