What is it used for?
Povidone iodine 5% is an antiseptic used on the skin to help prevent infection in minor cuts, wounds and other affected areas.
How does it work?
It slowly releases iodine, which kills or inactivates many types of germs on the skin.
How to take/use it
For external use only. Clean the affected area and apply the product as directed on the label or by a healthcare professional. Do not use it in the eyes or swallow it.
Common side effects
Mild skin irritation, redness, itching or dryness may occur. Allergic reactions are uncommon.
Precautions
Avoid use if allergic to povidone iodine or iodine-containing products. Do not apply over large areas, deep wounds or severe burns unless advised by a healthcare professional. Seek advice before repeated or prolonged use, or if there is thyroid disease, pregnancy, breastfeeding or use in a young child. Stop use and seek medical help for severe irritation, swelling or breathing difficulty.
