What is it used for?
Hydrocortisone injection is a corticosteroid used under medical supervision to reduce severe inflammation and allergic reactions. It may also be used when the body does not produce enough natural corticosteroid hormone, such as in adrenal insufficiency.

How does it work?
It acts like the body’s natural corticosteroid hormones. It reduces inflammation and dampens an overactive immune response.

How to take/use it
This injection must be given by a doctor or nurse into a vein or muscle. The dose and treatment duration depend on the condition being treated and the response to treatment. Do not self-inject.

Common side effects
Pain at the injection site, increased blood sugar, indigestion, mood changes, sleep problems, fluid retention and increased risk of infection may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about diabetes, high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, osteoporosis, mental health conditions or any infection. Corticosteroids can mask infection symptoms. Do not stop prolonged treatment suddenly unless advised by a doctor. Seek medical help for severe allergic symptoms, signs of infection or major mood changes.
