What is it used for?
Amoxicillin 125 mg is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the ear, throat, chest, skin, urinary tract and teeth. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.
How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from forming their protective cell wall, which helps clear the infection.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor, at evenly spaced times if directed. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not share it with others or use leftover antibiotics.
Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and skin rash may occur.
Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to amoxicillin, penicillin or similar antibiotics. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, or a severe rash. Contact a doctor if diarrhoea is severe, persistent or contains blood. Tell the doctor about kidney problems, previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea, or other medicines being taken.
