What is it used for?
Amoxicillin is an antibiotic used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria, such as some infections of the ears, throat, chest, urinary tract and skin. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.
How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from forming their protective cell wall.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by a doctor. Measure liquid doses with the provided measuring device, if applicable. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not share leftover antibiotics.
Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and skin rash may occur.
Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to amoxicillin, penicillin or related antibiotics. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash or persistent/severe diarrhoea. Tell the doctor about kidney problems, glandular fever, previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea and other medicines being taken.
