What is it used for?
L-Ornithine L-Aspartate injection is used to help lower high ammonia levels in the blood, especially in people with liver disease and hepatic encephalopathy. It may help improve symptoms such as confusion caused by this condition.
How does it work?
It helps the body convert ammonia into less harmful substances that can be removed through the urea cycle or used to make glutamine.
How to take/use it
This injection must be given by a doctor or nurse, usually into a vein. The dose and treatment duration depend on the condition and medical advice. Do not self-inject.
Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, diarrhoea or flatulence may occur. Allergic reactions are uncommon but possible.
Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney disease or any previous allergy to this medicine. It should not be used in severe kidney impairment unless specifically advised by a specialist. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling or a severe rash.
