Here is the medicine information for this three-drug diabetes combination.
Composition:
Glimepiride 1 mg + Pioglitazone 15 mg + Metformin 500 mg per tablet.
Uses:
Used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes when diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes alone are not sufficient. The three medicines work differently: glimepiride increases insulin release, pioglitazone improves insulin sensitivity, and metformin reduces glucose production by the liver.
How to Use:
Take only as prescribed by your doctor. It is generally taken with or immediately after food. Swallow the tablet with water. Do not skip meals while taking glimepiride. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.
Precautions & Warnings:
Inform your doctor if you have heart failure, heart disease, liver or kidney problems, bladder cancer, osteoporosis, or a history of low blood sugar. Pioglitazone can cause fluid retention and may worsen or trigger heart failure. Glimepiride can cause hypoglycaemia, particularly when meals are skipped or alcohol is consumed. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis, particularly with significant kidney impairment.
Possible Side Effects:
Common side effects may include low blood sugar, weight gain, swelling of the legs or ankles, nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, headache, and dizziness. Pioglitazone may cause fluid retention and can increase the risk of bone fractures. Seek urgent medical attention for severe swelling, rapid unexplained weight gain, shortness of breath, chest pain, severe or persistent low blood sugar, or symptoms such as persistent vomiting, abdominal pain, unusual weakness, or difficulty breathing.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding:
Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Your doctor may recommend an alternative diabetes treatment.
Storage:
Store at room temperature in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach and sight of children. Do not use after the expiry date.
Important Safety Information:
Take this medicine exactly as prescribed and follow your recommended diet and exercise plan. Monitor blood glucose regularly. Keep a quick source of glucose available for symptoms of hypoglycaemia. Avoid excessive alcohol consumption. Regular monitoring of liver function, kidney function, body weight, and signs of fluid retention may be recommended.
