What is it used for?
Fexofenadine is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose, and itchy or watery eyes. It is also used to relieve itching and hives (urticaria).
How does it work?
It blocks the action of histamine, a substance involved in allergic reactions. This helps reduce itching, sneezing, runny nose and other allergy symptoms.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as directed by a doctor or as stated on the label. Swallow the tablet with water. Do not take it with apple, orange or grapefruit juice, as these may reduce its effect. Keep a gap between this medicine and aluminium- or magnesium-containing antacids, as advised by a doctor or pharmacist.
Common side effects
Headache, nausea, dizziness and mild drowsiness may occur.
Precautions
Tell a doctor if there is kidney disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Avoid driving or operating machinery if dizziness or drowsiness occurs. Seek medical advice if symptoms do not improve or if an allergic reaction develops.
