What is it used for?
Iron sucrose is used to treat iron-deficiency anaemia, especially when iron tablets are not effective, cannot be tolerated, or iron replacement is needed under medical supervision. It is commonly used in people with chronic kidney disease and in other situations decided by a doctor.

How does it work?
It supplies iron to the body, helping restore iron stores and support the production of haemoglobin and red blood cells.

How to take/use it
Iron sucrose is given slowly into a vein by a doctor or nurse. The dose and number of treatments depend on the severity of iron deficiency and the individual’s medical condition. It is not for self-injection or oral use.

Common side effects
Headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, changes in blood pressure, muscle or joint pain, and pain or irritation at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
It should be used only after confirming iron deficiency. Tell the healthcare professional about previous reactions to intravenous iron, allergies, liver disease, or conditions causing iron overload. Serious allergic reactions can rarely occur, so monitoring during and shortly after treatment is important. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, severe dizziness, or fainting.
