What is it used for?
Fluconazole is an antifungal medicine used to treat fungal infections, including yeast infections such as vaginal thrush and infections of the mouth, throat or other parts of the body.
How does it work?
It stops fungi from making an essential part of their cell membrane, which prevents the infection from growing and helps clear it.
How to take/use it
Take it by mouth exactly as prescribed. Swallow the capsule or tablet with water; it may usually be taken with or without food. Complete the prescribed treatment, even if symptoms improve, unless a healthcare professional advises otherwise.
Common side effects
Headache, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhoea and indigestion.
Precautions
Tell a doctor or pharmacist about liver or kidney problems, heart-rhythm problems, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and all other medicines being taken. Seek medical help for severe rash, facial swelling, breathing difficulty, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or unusual heartbeat.
