What is it used for?
Etoricoxib is used to reduce pain, swelling and stiffness caused by arthritis and other joint conditions. It may also be prescribed for short-term treatment of acute gout or other painful inflammatory conditions, as directed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It reduces the production of substances called prostaglandins that cause pain and inflammation. It selectively blocks an enzyme called COX-2.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Swallow the tablet with water; it can usually be taken with or without food. Do not take more than the prescribed dose or combine it with other painkillers such as ibuprofen, diclofenac or naproxen unless advised by a doctor.

Common side effects
Indigestion, stomach pain, nausea, headache, dizziness, swelling of the feet or ankles, and increased blood pressure.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is a history of heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, stomach ulcer or bleeding, kidney or liver disease, or allergy to painkillers. Avoid use during pregnancy unless specifically prescribed; it should not be used in late pregnancy. Seek medical help for chest pain, breathing difficulty, severe skin rash, black stools, or swelling of the face or throat.
