What is it used for?
Etoricoxib is used to reduce pain, swelling and stiffness in conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and other joint-related inflammatory conditions. It may also be prescribed for short-term severe pain, including acute gout, when appropriate.

How does it work?
It is a selective COX-2 inhibitor that reduces the production of substances responsible for pain and inflammation.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, preferably at the same time each day. It may be taken with or without food. Do not take more than the prescribed amount or use it for longer than advised. Avoid taking other painkillers from the NSAID group unless advised by a doctor.

Common side effects
Indigestion, stomach pain, nausea, headache, dizziness, swelling of the legs or feet, and increased blood pressure.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is a history of stomach ulcer or bleeding, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, liver disease, or allergy to painkillers. It may increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, especially with higher doses or long-term use. Avoid use during pregnancy unless specifically prescribed. Seek medical help for chest pain, breathing difficulty, black stools, severe skin reactions, or swelling of the face or throat.
