What is it used for?
Esomeprazole is used to reduce excess stomach acid and relieve acidity, heartburn and acid reflux. It may also be used to help heal acid-related irritation of the food pipe and stomach ulcers, as prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It blocks the acid-producing pump in the stomach, reducing the amount of acid released. This helps relieve acid reflux symptoms and allows irritated tissues to heal.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as directed by the doctor or on the label. It is usually taken before food. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it. Do not stop long-term treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation and gas.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about allergies, liver problems, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and all other medicines being taken. Long-term use may rarely affect magnesium or vitamin B12 levels and may increase the risk of some infections or bone fractures. Seek medical advice for difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, unexplained weight loss or persistent symptoms.
