What is it used for?
Esomeprazole injection reduces excess stomach acid. It is used for acid-related conditions such as heartburn, acid reflux (GERD) and stomach or intestinal ulcers, particularly when treatment by mouth is not suitable.

How does it work?
Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It reduces the production of acid in the stomach, helping relieve symptoms and support healing of acid-related damage.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given as an injection or infusion into a vein by a doctor or nurse. It should not be self-administered. The dose and treatment duration depend on the condition and medical assessment.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, stomach pain, gas and irritation at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to esomeprazole or other proton pump inhibitors, liver disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Inform the doctor about all medicines being used, as esomeprazole can interact with some medicines. Seek medical advice for severe or persistent diarrhoea, rash, swelling or breathing difficulty.
