What is it used for?
Nimesulide is used for short-term relief of acute pain, inflammation and fever, such as pain affecting the muscles or joints.

How does it work?
It reduces the production of substances called prostaglandins that cause pain, swelling and fever.

How to take/use it
Take only as prescribed by a doctor, preferably with or after food. Use the lowest effective amount for the shortest period advised. Do not take it with other painkillers or anti-inflammatory medicines unless advised by a doctor.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, indigestion, stomach pain, diarrhoea, dizziness, headache and skin rash.

Precautions
Use only under medical advice, especially if there is liver disease, stomach ulcer or bleeding, kidney or heart disease, or an allergy to anti-inflammatory medicines. Avoid alcohol. Stop taking it and seek medical help for yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, severe stomach pain, black stools, vomiting blood, facial swelling or breathing difficulty. It is generally avoided during pregnancy, especially the last three months, unless specifically prescribed.
