What is it used for?
Naproxen is used to relieve pain, swelling and stiffness, especially in arthritis, muscle and joint conditions. It may also be used for short-term painful conditions such as menstrual pain.

How does it work?
It reduces the production of substances called prostaglandins that cause pain, swelling and inflammation.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and swallow it with water, preferably with or after food. Do not take more than recommended or use it for longer than advised. Avoid taking it with other painkillers such as ibuprofen or aspirin unless advised by a doctor.

Common side effects
Indigestion, stomach pain, nausea, heartburn, headache and dizziness.

Precautions
Naproxen can cause stomach ulcers or bleeding and may affect the kidneys, blood pressure or heart. Seek medical help for black stools, vomiting blood, severe stomach pain, chest pain or breathing difficulty. Tell a doctor if there is a history of ulcers, kidney or heart problems, high blood pressure, asthma triggered by painkillers, or use of blood thinners. Avoid use during pregnancy unless specifically advised, especially in the last 3 months.
