What is it used for?
Cefadroxil is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat and tonsils, skin and soft tissues, and urinary tract. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It is a cephalosporin antibiotic that kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from forming their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at evenly spaced times if directed. It may be taken with food if it causes stomach upset. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve, and do not share it with others.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to cefadroxil, other cephalosporins, or certain penicillin-type antibiotics, unless advised by a doctor. Inform the doctor about kidney disease, as the dose may need adjustment. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, a severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Use only for a confirmed or strongly suspected bacterial infection.
