What is it used for?
This medicine is an antibiotic used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria. The lactic acid bacillus is included to help support healthy intestinal bacteria during antibiotic treatment.

How does it work?
Doxycycline stops susceptible bacteria from making proteins needed for their growth. Lactic acid bacillus is a beneficial bacterium that may help maintain the normal balance of gut bacteria.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with a full glass of water. Do not lie down immediately after taking it. Avoid taking it at the same time as antacids or supplements containing iron, calcium or magnesium; follow a healthcare professional’s advice about spacing them. Complete the prescribed course unless advised otherwise.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, diarrhoea and increased sensitivity to sunlight may occur.

Precautions
Avoid unnecessary sunlight and use sun protection. Seek medical advice for severe or persistent diarrhoea, difficulty swallowing, severe headache or vision changes. Tell the healthcare professional about pregnancy, breastfeeding, liver problems, swallowing or food-pipe problems, or allergy to tetracycline antibiotics. Doxycycline is generally avoided in pregnancy and in children under 8 years unless specifically prescribed. Take medical advice about other medicines and supplements.
