What is it used for?
This medicine is used to treat various bacterial infections. It does not work against viral infections such as common cold or flu. Lactobacillus is included as a probiotic to help support the normal balance of bacteria in the gut.

How does it work?
Doxycycline stops susceptible bacteria from making proteins they need to grow and multiply. Lactobacillus is a beneficial bacterium that helps support normal intestinal flora.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Swallow the capsule with a full glass of water while sitting or standing, and do not lie down immediately afterwards. Avoid taking it close to milk or dairy products, antacids, iron, calcium or magnesium supplements unless advised otherwise. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort and increased sensitivity to sunlight may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to doxycycline or other tetracycline antibiotics. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice. It is generally avoided in children under 8 years unless specifically prescribed. Use sun protection and limit prolonged exposure to sunlight. Seek medical advice for severe or persistent diarrhoea, difficulty swallowing, severe headache or vision changes.
