What is it used for?
Domperidone is used to relieve nausea and vomiting. It may also help improve symptoms caused by slow movement of food through the stomach, when prescribed by a doctor.
How does it work?
It blocks dopamine signals involved in triggering vomiting and helps increase movement of the upper digestive tract, allowing food to pass through the stomach more easily.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. It is generally taken before meals. Do not take more than the recommended amount or use it for longer than advised.
Common side effects
Dry mouth, headache, stomach cramps, diarrhoea, sleepiness or dizziness may occur.
Precautions
Use only under medical advice, especially if there is a history of heart rhythm problems, heart disease, liver disease, or abnormal potassium or magnesium levels. Domperidone can rarely cause serious abnormal heart rhythms and may interact with some antibiotics, antifungals and other medicines. Seek urgent medical help for fainting, severe dizziness, palpitations or an irregular heartbeat.
