What is it used for?
Fusidic acid cream is used to treat bacterial skin infections, including infected cuts, wounds and conditions such as impetigo, when caused by bacteria sensitive to fusidic acid.
How does it work?
It is a topical antibiotic that stops susceptible bacteria from making essential proteins, helping clear the infection.
How to take/use it
For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected skin exactly as directed by a doctor or pharmacist. Wash hands before and after use, unless the hands are being treated. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and inside of the nose.
Common side effects
Mild skin irritation, burning, stinging, itching, redness or rash at the application site.
Precautions
Do not use for fungal or viral infections unless advised by a healthcare professional. Avoid prolonged or repeated use, as this may encourage antibiotic resistance. Stop using it and seek medical advice if severe irritation, swelling, breathing difficulty or worsening infection occurs.
