What is it used for?
Deflazacort is a corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation and overactivity of the immune system. It may be prescribed for certain inflammatory, allergic or autoimmune conditions, depending on the doctor's diagnosis.

How does it work?
It reduces the release of substances that cause inflammation and suppresses excessive immune-system activity.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Take it with food if it causes stomach discomfort. Do not change the dose or stop treatment suddenly, especially after prolonged use, unless advised by a doctor.

Common side effects
Increased appetite, indigestion, mood changes, difficulty sleeping, fluid retention and increased blood sugar may occur. The risk of side effects is higher with larger doses or longer treatment.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about diabetes, high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, osteoporosis, glaucoma, liver or kidney problems, or any current infection. Deflazacort can reduce resistance to infection; avoid close contact with contagious illnesses and check with a doctor before receiving vaccines. Seek medical advice for signs of infection or severe mood changes. Long-term treatment should be medically monitored.
