What is it used for?
Dapagliflozin 5 mg + Metformin 1000 mg is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes.

How does it work?
Metformin reduces the amount of glucose made by the liver and improves the body's response to insulin. Dapagliflozin helps the kidneys remove excess glucose from the body through urine.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the tablet as directed and do not change the dose or stop it without medical advice. Drink adequate fluids unless a doctor has advised fluid restriction.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, increased urination, thirst, dehydration, urinary tract infection and genital fungal infection. Low blood sugar is more likely when used with insulin or sulfonylurea medicines.

Precautions
Inform the doctor about kidney or liver disease, dehydration, heavy alcohol use, heart failure, or a planned surgery or contrast-dye scan. This medicine is not used for type 1 diabetes. Seek urgent medical help for severe vomiting, abdominal pain, unusual tiredness, difficulty breathing, confusion, or inability to keep fluids down, as these may indicate a serious reaction. Report burning urination, fever, or genital itching or pain. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice.
