What is it used for?
Used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How does it work?
Dapagliflozin helps the kidneys remove excess glucose through urine. Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and improves the body's response to insulin.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, usually with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the tablet as directed and do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Drink adequate fluids unless fluid restriction has been advised.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, loss of appetite, increased urination, dehydration, and genital or urinary tract infections. Low blood sugar is more likely when used with insulin or certain other diabetes medicines.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease, dehydration, recurrent urinary or genital infections, heart problems, heavy alcohol use, or a planned surgery or procedure. Kidney function should be checked regularly. Seek urgent medical help for severe weakness, vomiting, stomach pain, rapid breathing, confusion, or unusual drowsiness, as these may indicate ketoacidosis or another serious reaction. This medicine may need to be stopped temporarily during severe illness, prolonged fasting, or around certain procedures, only as advised by a doctor. Discuss its use during pregnancy or breastfeeding with a doctor.
