What is it used for?
This medicine is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when one or more medicines alone are not enough. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How does it work?
Glimepiride helps the pancreas release more insulin, while metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and improves the body's response to insulin. Dapagliflozin helps remove excess glucose from the blood through urine.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually with food to reduce stomach upset and the risk of low blood sugar. Swallow the tablet whole unless instructed otherwise. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Drink enough fluids unless fluid restriction has been advised.

Common side effects
Low blood sugar, nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, increased urination, dizziness, dehydration, urinary tract infections and genital fungal infections may occur.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision if there is kidney or liver disease, dehydration, recurrent urinary or genital infections, or a history of diabetic ketoacidosis. The risk of low blood sugar is higher with missed meals, alcohol or strenuous exercise. Seek urgent medical help for severe weakness, vomiting, stomach pain, breathing difficulty or confusion. Tell the doctor before surgery, prolonged fasting, serious illness, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and before receiving contrast dye tests.
