What is it used for?
Used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when blood sugar is not adequately controlled with other treatment.

How does it work?
Metformin reduces the amount of glucose made by the liver and improves the body's response to insulin. Glimepiride increases insulin release, while pioglitazone improves insulin sensitivity.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, preferably with food, and swallow with water. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Regular blood sugar monitoring is important.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, loss of appetite, low blood sugar, weight gain and swelling of the ankles or legs.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems, heart failure, bladder cancer, severe illness, dehydration, or heavy alcohol use. Low blood sugar is more likely if meals are skipped or with other diabetes medicines. Seek medical help for severe weakness, unusual breathing difficulty, yellowing of the skin, or rapidly worsening swelling. Inform the doctor before surgery or contrast-dye investigations, and if pregnant or breastfeeding.
