What is it used for?
Used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes, especially when one diabetes medicine alone is not enough.

How does it work?
Metformin reduces the amount of sugar made by the liver and helps the body use insulin better. Glimepiride encourages the pancreas to release more insulin, helping lower blood sugar.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, usually with a meal, and swallow with water. Do not skip meals while taking it. Do not take extra medicine for a missed dose; follow the prescriber’s instructions. Continue diet and exercise advice and do not stop treatment without medical guidance.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach upset, abdominal discomfort and a metallic taste may occur. Low blood sugar can cause sweating, shakiness, hunger, dizziness, weakness or confusion. Weight gain may occur.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision, especially with kidney or liver problems. The risk of low blood sugar is higher if meals are skipped, alcohol is consumed, or during illness with reduced food intake. Seek urgent medical help for severe or persistent weakness, breathing difficulty, unusual sleepiness or severe stomach discomfort. Inform the doctor before surgery, medical tests using contrast dye, or if pregnant or breastfeeding.
