What is it used for?
Amoxycillin with clavulanic acid is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the ear, sinuses, throat, chest, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, and teeth. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Amoxycillin kills susceptible bacteria by interfering with their protective cell wall. Clavulanic acid helps protect amoxycillin from bacterial enzymes that can make it ineffective.

How to take/use it
Take only as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Take it with a meal or snack to help reduce stomach upset. Do not share leftover antibiotics or use them for a future illness.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, indigestion, skin rash and thrush may occur.

Precautions
Do not use if there has been a serious allergy to penicillin, amoxycillin, cephalosporin antibiotics or this medicine. Tell the doctor about liver disease, kidney disease, previous antibiotic-related jaundice or liver problems, and other medicines being used. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, a severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea, especially with blood or mucus.
