What is it used for?
Ciprofloxacin is a prescription antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including some urinary, gastrointestinal, skin, bone and joint, and respiratory infections. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by blocking enzymes they need to grow and multiply.

How to take/use it
Use exactly as prescribed and follow the instructions on the label. Do not self-medicate or stop treatment early without medical advice. The dose, treatment duration and route depend on the infection and the product. If taken by mouth, follow advice about separating it from antacids, iron, calcium or other mineral supplements.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, headache, dizziness and rash may occur.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision. Seek urgent medical help for tendon pain or swelling, numbness or tingling, severe weakness, serious mood or nervous-system changes, severe or persistent diarrhoea, breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe rash. Tell the doctor about pregnancy, breastfeeding, kidney problems, heart-rhythm problems, seizures or medicines being used. Ciprofloxacin interacts with several medicines, including tizanidine.
