What is it used for?
Ciprofloxacin injection is an antibiotic used to treat certain serious bacterial infections when treatment by injection is needed. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by blocking enzymes needed for bacterial DNA replication and repair.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given slowly into a vein by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection, kidney function and medical advice. It should not be self-administered.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, headache, dizziness and pain or irritation at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney disease, epilepsy, heart rhythm problems, tendon problems, or previous allergy to ciprofloxacin or similar antibiotics. Seek medical help for tendon pain or swelling, severe or persistent diarrhoea, numbness or tingling, severe mood or nerve-related symptoms, palpitations, breathing difficulty or a serious rash. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only when specifically advised. Complete the prescribed course unless the doctor advises otherwise.
