What is it used for?
Cefuroxime axetil is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, sinuses, ears, chest, urinary tract and skin. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.
How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from making their protective cell wall.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, preferably after food, and swallow the tablet whole with water. Complete the prescribed course even if symptoms improve. Do not take it without medical advice or share it with others.
Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache and skin rash may occur.
Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to cefuroxime, penicillins or other antibiotics. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, or a severe skin rash. Antacids and medicines that reduce stomach acid may affect its absorption; inform the doctor or pharmacist about all medicines being taken.
