What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including some infections of the throat, lungs, urinary tract and skin. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.
How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. If instructed to disperse the tablet, mix it with water as directed and take it immediately. Do not share leftover antibiotics with others.
Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion, headache and skin rash.
Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporin antibiotics or certain penicillin-type antibiotics. Inform the prescriber about kidney problems or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea.
