What is it used for?
Itraconazole is an antifungal medicine used to treat various fungal infections, including infections affecting the skin, nails, mouth, genitals or internal organs, as prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It blocks the production of ergosterol, a substance fungi need to build and maintain their cell walls. This stops fungal growth and helps clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and follow the product-specific instructions about food. Do not change the dose, stop treatment early or substitute it with another itraconazole formulation without medical advice. Tell the doctor about all medicines and supplements being taken.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Inform the doctor about liver disease, heart failure, pregnancy or plans to become pregnant. Itraconazole can cause serious medicine interactions and, rarely, liver or heart problems. Seek medical help for yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, severe tiredness, shortness of breath, swelling of the legs or a severe skin reaction. Avoid taking it if allergic to itraconazole or similar antifungal medicines.
