What is it used for?
This prescription injection is used to treat serious bacterial infections. It does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Ceftriaxone kills bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall. Tazobactam helps protect ceftriaxone from enzymes made by some bacteria, allowing it to work better.

How to take/use it
It is given by a doctor or nurse by injection into a vein or muscle. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of the infection and should be decided by the prescriber. Do not self-inject or stop treatment early without medical advice.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, rash, and pain or discomfort at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to ceftriaxone, other cephalosporins, penicillins or related antibiotics, and about kidney, liver or intestinal problems. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, severe rash, or persistent or bloody diarrhoea. Use during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or in newborn babies only under medical supervision.
