What is it used for?
Ceftriaxone with sulbactam is an injectable antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, such as infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin, blood and other body tissues, when prescribed by a doctor. It does not work against viral infections such as cold or flu.

How does it work?
Ceftriaxone kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall. Sulbactam helps ceftriaxone work against certain bacteria that can otherwise resist some antibiotics.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given by injection into a vein or muscle by a doctor or trained healthcare professional. The dose and duration depend on the type and severity of infection and should be followed exactly as prescribed. Do not stop treatment early unless advised by the doctor.

Common side effects
Pain, redness or swelling at the injection site, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, rash and headache may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to ceftriaxone, penicillins, cephalosporins or other antibiotics, and about liver, kidney or gallbladder problems. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Use only for a confirmed or strongly suspected bacterial infection and only as prescribed.
