What is it used for?
Ceftriaxone injection is an antibiotic used to treat a wide range of serious bacterial infections, such as infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin, blood, bones or joints. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall, which stops the infection from spreading.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given as an injection into a vein or muscle by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of the infection. Use it only as prescribed and complete the recommended course.

Common side effects
Pain or swelling at the injection site, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to ceftriaxone, other cephalosporins or penicillin antibiotics, and about kidney, liver or gallbladder problems. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, severe rash, or severe or bloody diarrhoea. It should be used in newborns and during pregnancy or breastfeeding only under medical supervision.
