What is it used for?
Cefoperazone with sulbactam is an antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Cefoperazone kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from building their protective cell wall. Sulbactam blocks enzymes that can make some bacteria resistant to cefoperazone, helping the antibiotic work effectively.

How to take/use it
This medicine is usually given as an injection into a vein or muscle by a healthcare professional. Use it only as prescribed and complete the recommended treatment unless the prescriber advises otherwise. Do not self-inject.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, skin rash, itching, and pain or redness at the injection site may occur. Changes in liver tests or blood counts can also occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to penicillin, cephalosporin, or other antibiotics, and about liver disease, kidney disease, or bleeding problems. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, unusual bleeding, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Avoid alcohol during treatment unless the doctor says it is safe, as cefoperazone may cause an unpleasant reaction with alcohol.
