What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime with clavulanic acid is a prescription antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections. The exact infection it treats depends on the doctor's diagnosis. It does not work against viral infections such as common cold or flu.

How does it work?
Cefpodoxime stops bacteria from building their protective cell wall. Clavulanic acid blocks certain bacterial enzymes that can make cefpodoxime less effective, helping the antibiotic work against some resistant bacteria.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and swallow it with water. Follow the prescribed schedule and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Do not double the dose if one is missed; take it when remembered unless it is nearly time for the next dose.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain or indigestion, headache, and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporins, penicillins, or related antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney problems, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or a previous history of severe diarrhoea after antibiotics. Seek medical advice for severe or persistent diarrhoea, breathing difficulty, facial swelling, or a widespread rash. Use only for the prescribed infection and do not share leftover antibiotics.
