What is it used for?
Cefoperazone with sulbactam is an injectable antibiotic used to treat serious infections caused by susceptible bacteria, such as certain respiratory, urinary, abdominal, skin and other bacterial infections. It does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Cefoperazone kills bacteria by interfering with the formation of their protective cell wall. Sulbactam helps cefoperazone work against bacteria that can otherwise resist some antibiotics.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given by injection into a vein or muscle by a doctor or trained healthcare professional. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection and should be followed exactly as prescribed.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, rash, pain at the injection site and changes in liver blood tests may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to penicillin, cephalosporin or other antibiotics, liver disease, bleeding problems, or use of blood-thinning medicines. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, a severe skin reaction, unusual bleeding, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for several days after the last dose unless the doctor advises otherwise.
