What is it used for?
Cefixime with clavulanic acid is a prescription antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections. It does not work against viral infections such as the common cold or flu.

How does it work?
Cefixime kills susceptible bacteria by interfering with their cell-wall formation. Clavulanic acid helps protect cefixime from enzymes made by some resistant bacteria, allowing it to work more effectively.

How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed by the doctor and follow the recommended schedule. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve, and do not share or reuse leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain or indigestion, and headache. Skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to cefixime, other cephalosporins, penicillins, or similar antibiotics. Inform the doctor about kidney disease, previous antibiotic-associated diarrhoea, or a history of severe allergic reactions. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe skin rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice.
