What is it used for?
Caspofungin injection is an antifungal medicine used to treat serious fungal infections, including invasive Candida infections and certain Aspergillus infections. It may also be used in some patients with persistent fever and suspected fungal infection, as decided by a specialist.

How does it work?
It blocks the production of an important part of the fungal cell wall, helping to stop the growth of fungi.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given slowly into a vein by a doctor or nurse. It is intended for hospital or specialist use and should not be self-administered. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection.

Common side effects
Fever, chills, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, rash, redness or pain at the injection site, and changes in liver enzyme levels may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to caspofungin or other antifungal medicines, liver disease, or pregnancy or breastfeeding. Liver function may need monitoring during treatment. Inform the doctor about all medicines being taken, as some medicines can affect caspofungin. Seek immediate medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, or a severe infusion reaction.
