What is it used for?
Carvedilol is used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. It may also be prescribed after a heart attack when the heart’s pumping ability is reduced.

How does it work?
It slows the heart rate and relaxes blood vessels, helping lower blood pressure and reducing the heart’s workload.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually with food, and at the same time each day. Do not stop it suddenly, as this may worsen heart problems. If a dose is missed, follow the prescriber’s instructions.

Common side effects
Dizziness, tiredness, low blood pressure, slow heartbeat, faintness, diarrhoea, and cold hands or feet.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision if there is asthma or other breathing disease, a very slow heartbeat, heart block, low blood pressure, liver disease, or worsening heart failure. Carvedilol may hide some warning signs of low blood sugar in people with diabetes. Rise slowly if dizzy, and seek medical help for severe breathing difficulty, fainting, swelling, or rapid weight gain.
