What is it used for?
Used to supplement calcium and vitamin D, helping maintain healthy bones and teeth and prevent or correct low calcium or vitamin D levels when recommended.
How does it work?
Calcium provides a mineral needed for bones, teeth, muscles and nerves. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium from the intestine.
How to take/use it
Take only as directed on the product label or by a doctor. Calcium carbonate is generally best taken with food and swallowed with water. Do not take more than the recommended amount or combine it with other calcium or vitamin D products without medical advice.
Common side effects
Constipation, gas, bloating, nausea or stomach discomfort.
Precautions
Tell a doctor if there is kidney disease, a history of kidney stones or high calcium levels. Calcium can reduce the absorption of some medicines, including iron, thyroid medicines and certain antibiotics; these may need to be taken at a separate time as advised by a doctor or pharmacist. Seek medical advice before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
