What is it used for?
Roxithromycin is a prescription antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, sinuses, chest, skin and urinary or genital tract. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow and multiply.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Follow the product label or prescriber’s instructions about timing with food. Do not share leftover antibiotics or use them for a new illness without medical advice.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to roxithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics. Inform the prescriber about liver disease, heart rhythm problems, or medicines being taken, as interactions and abnormal heart rhythms may occur. Seek medical advice for severe or persistent diarrhoea, yellowing of the skin or eyes, severe rash, swelling or breathing difficulty.
