What is it used for?
Disodium hydrogen citrate is a urinary alkaliniser used to make urine less acidic. It may help relieve burning during urination and is used in some cases of uric acid kidney stones, as directed by a doctor.
How does it work?
It increases the alkalinity of urine, reducing its acidity. This can help relieve irritation and may help prevent or dissolve uric acid crystals.
How to take/use it
Use exactly as prescribed or stated on the product label. Do not take more or use it for longer than recommended. It does not replace antibiotics when a urinary infection is present.
Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, diarrhoea, or a bloated feeling may occur.
Precautions
Use only on medical advice if there is kidney disease, heart failure, high blood pressure, or a need to restrict salt or sodium. Seek medical attention for fever, severe back or side pain, blood in the urine, or persistent urinary symptoms.
