What is it used for?
Ceftriaxone with sulbactam is an injectable antibiotic used to treat serious infections caused by susceptible bacteria, such as infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin, or bloodstream. It does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Ceftriaxone kills bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall. Sulbactam helps ceftriaxone work against some bacteria that can otherwise resist certain antibiotics.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given by a doctor or nurse into a vein or muscle. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection and should be decided by the prescriber. Complete the prescribed course unless advised otherwise.

Common side effects
Pain, redness or swelling at the injection site, diarrhoea, nausea, rash, and changes in liver function tests may occur.

Precautions
Inform the doctor about any allergy to ceftriaxone, penicillins, cephalosporins, or other antibiotics. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, or a severe rash. Contact the doctor for severe or persistent diarrhoea. Tell the doctor about liver or kidney problems, pregnancy, or if the medicine is intended for a newborn. Use only under medical supervision.
